The past tense.
In Dutch the past tense is called: onvoltooid tegenwoordige tijd (o.v.t.). Perhaps this mnemonic device (how about some difficult words, right!)can help you:
o.v.t. --> oh, verrek, toen!
Remember: if you say when in the past an action took place, you must use the past tense!
