Testweek

Hello ladies and gents!
After my vacation on Malta and Gozo, I am trying to get the focus back on work. In my mailbox I found a mail informing me that the time of your English test in the testweek has been changed: instead of the first two hours it has now been scheduled for hours 7 and 8. The location is BG2.
Maybe not the best news to end the holiday with, but that's the way it is.
I still wish you a nice weekend and look forward to seeing you all happy and cheerful next week.

An American in Boxmeer?

Some nice words

As some of you may know: the World Equestrianism (having to do with horses) Games are being held at the moment. On a website I saw the following news about Adelinde Cornelissen (by the way, a former English teacher), and her horse, who were eliminated while doing their test. I think the article contains some very nice idioms and therefore I want you to see it.

"The Grand Prix team competition at the 2010 World Equestrian Games, which resumed today with the second group of riders, has taken several dramatic turns so far similar to a tragic opera. The Netherlands' number two rider, Adelinde Cornelissen, who is a strong contender for the individual medals, was eliminated because her horse Parzival bit the tip of his tongue and blood showed in his mouth. It happened right in front of the judge's box at C during the rein back. Cornelissen was excused from the class and sadly for her the 2010 World Equestrian Games are over."

Dear Pandora -homework assignment 1-

Dear Pandora,
You asked me to tell you something about myself, so here it is.
I live in the Netherlands, in a small country-village, called Overloon –in a detached house-, but I was born in another town, Amersfoort. In Amersfoort I lived in a small terraced house with my two parents, my little brother and little sister.

My hobbies? I love writing, chatting online with friends from all over the world. Oh, and I love good Italian food.

I’m going to a Dutch high-school where I am in the 5th grade, and this is my last but one year on high school. After that I want to go to Maastricht to follow a management education.

My best holiday you asked? I don’t know. I love going to Italy, Spain, Japan (I’ve never been there though), America.

But I’m just raving now, so I’m going to say goodbye. I hope to hear from you soon.

Letter/introduction/first assignment

Dear pen-friend,

My name is Miriam, I’m sixteen years old and I live in a really really small village called Ven-Zelderheide. I live there with my Mum and Dad and in the weekends my brother and sister come back home. They have already finished High School and go to university in Eindhoven and Nijmegen. They have their own dorm room so they don’t have to spend a huge amount of time getting to the university.

In my spare time I like to play the flute. At least one day in the week sometimes two, I have a lesson and I also play with and orchestra once a week. I also like going out, shopping, normal girls’ stuff.
I don’t really have a favourite subject, if I really had to choose it would be Greek or Latin. I kind of hate all the subjects, that sounds really depressing but I just don’t know where my interests lie. The teachers are more or less the same.

My best holiday is also the holiday with school to Greece. It was really a time that we will never forget. Although this year I went with Cyril to France which was also great.
I have no clue what to do when I’ve finished school, but I’ve got two years to figure that out. So I’ll let you know in time.
